I got my final parts in for the midget(hopefully). Got to put in the new interior door switches and some tenax fasteners and a few other things. Then wetsand and polish a few spots of orange peel on the clear coat and install the luggage rack. Then an all over vacuuming and cleaning. Then check the air in the tires and all fluid levels and I am ready for registration. I am looking for me a nice 1971 license tag to put on the back. Here you can run a tag from the year of manufacture if you carry the valid one in the car with you to show the cops or whatever, plus no vehicle inspection once 35 years old.

Do the police generally pull you over just to check if you've got the proper tag in the car? What a PITA that could be...

I don't know Tony, but I doubt they will very often. Its a pretty common thing to do here on old cars, keeps people (at least the ones with a few braing cells anyways) from asking what year car it is.

Here in WA they will issue a collector plate on request for cars 30 years and older and you can also register a year of manufacture plate which is tied to the DMV record.
They allow you to use a plate one year older to one year newer than the car.
Also you only have to use the rear plate. (the state issue is one plate)
Then you never have to register (or pay) again.

Well, thats probably like if you get in a fender bender or something I would reckon. Who else would even ask or know to?

If you run into difficulty finding a 71, I can check in my at my Grandmother's house. She lives in Cleveland over by Stateville. My Granddad had several plates in the basement by his work bench. They date back into the 60's. Might get lucky. I go visit with her nearly every other weekend to take care of the yard and do odd jobs.

You know my mom and dad are from statesville originally and that made me think to look down at my dads next time because he has a bunch of old tags and stuff down there.
