well here in alabama when i leave in the morning its in the 20's but i warm my car up for a few mins then i take the parking break off and back down the driveway. today i figured out why my parking break was on when i got to school. when i back out the driveway i heard this clicking noise and the parking break handel just happened to catch my eye. it was aobut half way up?? so i put it back down and then start driving down the road watching my parking break handel and all of a sudden about 10 feet from my driveway the handel start clicking and it rose up about half way and stoped. then i put it back down and everything was fine. and the parking break only holds on the very top click and if i close the door hard or move fast the car will start rolling im my driveway which hardly has a slope at all. whats going on?

hi adam,
sounds like you may need to take a look at your rear brakes. i believe the are supposed to self adjust when you back up. if your p-brake only engages at the very top of the pull then your cable needs adjusting. while there check your shoes for wear. you may need to R+R you shoes. cant say i have ever heard of symptons like that before. but the basics apply. make sure the brakes and drums are servicable, the cable is not binding or pinched on anything. and the brakes are not stuck , and that the wheel cylynders are not leaking
i made the mistake once (on my toyota) of adjusting my brakes out whenever i needed to adjust the cable, bottom line is i went thru a set of shoes in no time. so if all is good under there. adjust your cable, and make sure you brakes are not binding (wheel should spin freely with very little to no drag at all) use the adjuster on your brakes and then tighten your ebrake cable.
good luck and lets hear how ya make out
