Parking Brake Cable

Good evening all,
I'm in the process of rebuilding the suspension on my '73 TR6. I've started with the rear and it all came apart without incident EXCEPT for the parking brake cable where it attaches to the trailing arm (see where items 134 and 135 attach in the picture below). Despite liberal applications of PB Blaster, the stud snapped off the fitting when I tried to remove it.

It appears that the only way to get this part from the usual suspects is to order the entire brake cable assembly. My questions are...

1. Can this part be replaced without replacing the entire (otherwise perfectly servicable) cable assembly? It looks like it might come off, but I've not gotten the rubber boot of the end of the cable yet.

2. If this can be removed, might any of you have a old cable with a good fitting around?

THANKS!
Ken

Ken,

My old cables are not accessible for another month. I'm not sure if they come off, but I do know that new ones were on my new cables.

I just checked the printed catalogs and neither TRF or Moss list them separately.

EDIT:

The more that I think about these, the more that I remember them to be part of the cable assembly. But that doesn't mean that they can't be removed, if one is careful. Sorry that I can't help for so long.

Thanks Paul,
I'm hoping to avoid removing the cable since I don't really want to tear into the interior at the moment. All of the usual sources supply this item as part of the cable assembly, but I have not seen it listed separately anywhere. It will be a little while before I'm ready to put it back together, so hopefully someone has run into this before or has an old cable accessible to look at. I don't want to abuse mine too much until I determine it to be a lost cause.

Oh, and thanks for the motivational photo. I hope mine looks half as nice when I get it done.

Thanks Hondo, I saw those as well.

Donn - Outstanding idea. If I can't swap the block with an old cable, I will probably do something along those lines as a temporary repair until I get around to putting new cables in.

THANKS!
Ken

Put off installing new cables as long as the old
ones are still safe.

The fine young gentleman who previously owned my car,
PeterL, had both ends so buggered up and disconnected
that nothing was functional. I was forced to buy a
complete replacement system.

A pleasant task installing a new emergency brake cable
system with the car on jack stands, you might ask?

NO!! A miserable, dirty, knuckle bustin', hateful,
crud in your face task.

Weld a bolt, drill and tap some threads for a cable holder,
anything that works. Replacing the cables is no joy.
