I ordered this cable a month or so ago and have lost track of which vendor I used, most likely Moss or LBC. I plan to cut it, screw the fork on as far as it will go and try to make it work. This is the longer left side, the original cable beside it in the picture. I didn't order the other side which might have helped to sort things out if I had. At any rate, quite disappointed that the replacement cable is so much longer.
The black squiggle in the picture is the approximate original position of the original jam nut.

That's sure what it looks like to me. At any rate, I'd go back to the vendor and insist that they fix it, rather than trying to make it work.
 
Yup, thanks Charlie and Randall, makes perfect sense. Might be their mistake or I might have ordered the wrong one. It's good to know that they haven't got the length wrong. Apologies to the vendor.
