Parade Rest

OK, last year I put my MG into the St. Patrick's parade. It showed its green about halfway through, and piddled all over the course. The culprit seemed to have been that my sensor for the electric fans chose just then to conk out. I was thinking that before doing it this time I might just bypass the bugger, and lock the fans on for the whole time. 30 min tops. What might be the negative effects?

Noise.

If your t-stat is good, it'll be no worse than driving a car with a pulley-mounted fan.

Shouldn't hurt anything to jumper the thermostat for the duration of the parade.

I’ve done this too when I knew I was going to run my engine for extended periods during tune-ups & adjustments using my CO% gas analyzer. The advantage is that it helps make for more stable & repeatable readings.

Problem is the gas analyzer is kind of a finicky device and if I shut off the engine while I wait for it to stabilize between tests I lose the optimum engine temp. I found for more repeatable readings, it’s best to keep the engine up to operating temperature by leaving it running. But leaving it running with the thermostat in place, you can actually see the affects of the fan cycling on & off on your RPMs and timing.

Just don't forget to remove the jumper for the drive home.

Edit: Sorry when I say thermostat - I'm refering to the electrical temp sensor in the Radiator.
