Painting my rear end.

The current rear diff in my TR4 sings pretty bad so I'm swapping it out for a spare I've got. I'm wondering what's the best thing to repaint the "new" rear diff with that will stand up a little better to the road than just a can of black spray paint. I'm trying to keep my cost low so even if powder coating was possible I think it's a little out side my price range.

Try this stuff much better than the traditional spray can because it has the hardner in it. www.spraymax.com

Biggest challenge is getting existing rear end clean. I bet I had easily 10 hours into cleaning mine. Scrape, degrease (I used kerosene, wire brush) then detergent and rinse. Then chemical strip, brush, rinse, and sand, where accessible. I painted with epoxy prime and urethane. You could rattle can with an etching primer and then cover with black paint or simply apply a couple coats paint like Zero-rust with spray can or brush. Durable and easy to touch up.

I used an Eastwood product, Extreme Chassis Black. I'm happy with it, it is also a hardened paint so will take some abuse. And a definite yes to Pat's comments - cleaning it up is everything.

yeah, i've spent some time degreasing and scrubbing, still have some to go.

Anyone know if they sell that Eastwood paint at the local autoparts stores?
