MGB-GT Painted Sills on 74 B-GT?

Hi,
I just became a memeber to this great forum site and since this is probably the biggest "accumulation" of MG enthusiasts on net, I was wondering, if anybody knows if the outer sills on GT´s were ever painted in a greyish colour?
The particular car I am talking about is a blaze-red '74 Swiss LHD Chrome-GT whose sills and lower back-panel seem painted.

Pictures can be seen at:

Ideas anyone?
Keep up the good work,
Chris

Never saw one done that way. Is it covering up rust?

They could have put three black stripes down the top and hood of the car; whatever the owner likes.
I really like the looks of it too. My TR7 has the rockers black, and it isn't covering up any rust. I may even have my RB GT done like that next summer.
I give it a /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

While not coming from the factory that way, as far as i know..........Many guys paint the rockers or sills, black or a contrasting colour........it adds another dimension to the car.......My Rover has the sills done black.....Breaks up the solid green on the car

Actually took a look at the car today - just for curiosity.
Sills as well as whole underside of the car were painted with an extra layer of greyish chip resistent paint years ago.
Seem between front wing and sill was full of filler and ss-covers on sills didn't look promising either.
In all it looked like as the outer sill had been replaced in a partial restoration.

Thanks for all the answers to my question.

Cheers, Chris
