Paint/Polish Help

I am a firm believer that any time you spend waxing a car could have better been spent driving it. With this in mind I now have my club’s annual show coming up in three weeks and I have a thin layer of oxidized paint that I need to get rid of. I wouldn’t mind smoothing out the paint some while I’m at it.
I do not have the ability to paint the car so I must be very careful not to go through the paint.
As for tools, I have a 10” orbital buffer and two hands.
In the old days there was a product called TR3 Resin Glaze out of NY that worked like a dream. But as Clear-Coat paint took over this product died. My car does not have clear coat by the way.
What products and procedures have you had success with?

If the paint is in good condition and you just want to remove a light layer of oxidation to brighten the paint then you should consider using a good quality cleaner wax. The cleaner wax contains a mild abrasive to help remove swirl marks and minor scratches and does a good job on oxidation as well.
 
TR3 Resin glaze is still available on Amazon.com. Never used it but remember the TV commercials. I like Poor Boys products for buffing etc.

Mother's also has a very good line of products. Napa sells them, probably any hot rod shop also.
 
HI Bill , Forget the buffer. Begin by washing the car throughly with a good car wash product. Next polish the paint with 3M Hand polish, just follow the instructions. This product is sold primarily by auto paint distributors. If you want to smooth the paint out a bit before waxing, then get a clay bar and again follow the instructions.Finally you can use any high quality carnuba paste wax such as mothers to hold the shine you have already attained.----Fwiw--Keoke
 
Corvette clubs recommend ZAINO BRO's (ZAINOBROS.COM)waxes. I used them on my Vets and still use them on all my vehicles. They are the best I've ever used.

I just got done detailing my Mustang ragtop and I used some 10 year old Meguiars polish and then hit it with some free 3M wax that I got at a car show...looks pretty good considering this is probably the first shine it had since '89. I used my 1960's Craftsman buffer that I got free...I don't spend more on shiny stuff than I need to...
