paint nightmares

Thought I'd give a progress report and a little DIY warning. Maybe everyone but me knows this but beware of base/clear paints unless you have a heated paint room. I didn't and have suffered the consequences. Temp is a very big factor with B/C paint.
Sherwin Automotive sold me the products with the wrong hardener and told me that it would work. NOT!!! They then gave me the right stuff and said to simply put it over the bad stuff. DIDN'T WORK!!! I've been spending the last few weeks taking it all off!! The car looked really nice and black for a while but you could scratch it with a terry cloth towel. I have yet to see anyone from Sherwin-Williams helping me peel paint so I won't be using their products again. GRRRR!!! I've learned how to strip paint 7 different ways which is another talent that I really didn't want but maybe I'll be a body guy in my next life. When I get it done with real paint I'll post a pic--if I can figure out how, that is.
I sent my tach to GuageGuys for their upgrade and was very happy with the result. Works great and was only as expensive as a new one plus shipping. The main thing is it looks "right". John

Sorry to hear of your woes.

I am sure that all will work out fine, sadly we have to take steps backwards sometimes to get moving forward.

But it is usually in leaps, when we least expect it.

Keep us posted on how you are making out.

Pat

Not fun. Sorry.

Ack... Base/Clear is a two part system that requires a chemical reaction to harden as opposed to lacquer that hardens when the solvent evaporates. Some chemical reactions will not happen until they have acquired enough energy (heat) from their surroundings.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Removing "green" paint is messy and no fun. However, I guess you got some practice spraying.
