Any personal experiences with various types of paint for the block and head? I want something that will last forever in a standard red. Not that dark Ford red but not bright either. Just red.

I can't use POR paint because the block is already primered, and Moss paint is absolutely out of the question (it's garbage).

Any recommendations welcome!
 
Steve, I've used this before on the Midget (It has gotten very hot, and stayed on there, also used it on the Midget exhaust header), and will be using a different colour on the B very soon.
Lots of colours, and lots of red. HTH. I don't know if it'll last forever or not.
Duplicolor Engine Enamel.
 
I found Krylon to be long lasting. The Moss stuff ~used to~ work, too. Somehow the closest match to the B-series I found in years past in Krylon has 'disappeared' from their list: "2103, American Beauty Red (International Harvester Red)".

I tried a Plasti-kote "1359, Harvester Red" as a WAG and it's a bit more "red" than the B-series color... may be what you're lookin' for, tho.
 
Hi Steve,
I went with “Universal Red” engine paint from a local auto parts store. I can’t comment on the longevity at this point, but the paint is easily obtainable for touch-ups. Here’s what it looks like.

I don't wanna touch up! LOL! I want it to stick like glue. Fading is bad, but cracking is worse. I've used Duplicolor in the past with good results. I may go that route. I want to use the Eastwood stuff but they don't have a regular red, only Ford red.
 
Steve, my point exactly. The paint people should be able to offer a solution for the durability issue, as well as meet your requirements as to color. I would imagine that some sort of catalyzed paint would be the way to go.
How do you plan on applying it?

On the side, I restore antique tractors. I use Rustoleum Industrial paint when I can get it in the proper color. It comes in rattle cans also. I know it sounds a little crazy for an engine, but it really hangs on. Their red is exactly like the 1955 and earlier Ford tractor color. My Ford tractor was done 6 years ago and the paint looks like new. Of course, it is stored in a large building out of the weather along with my 1944, very rare, war time Farmall. It's painted in Dupont Imeron. PJ

Rick, As soon as I can get it outside, I'll take some photos of it. Right now it's, let's say, it's buried 70 feet back in the building. I used the tractor up until a couple of years ago and then retired it permanently. It should come out for some fresh air anyway. Hasn't been out for a couple years. The fuel system is dry so I'll have to pull it.
