Paint color identification

I'm fully convinced that I've seen this information on BCF but am totally unable to find it now that I need it. My '67 BJ8 is in the body shop for full repair and paint. I want it to be painted "Healey Blue" (Ice Blue Metallic?) over Ivory (is that the proper original?) side panels. Can someone please tell me the paint identifiers or where to find them? A kind gent at Moss gave me some info but an internet search can't seem to find any matches to the numbers. Thanks.

I don't know that anyone has come up with a modern paint code for "Healey Blue" I know that a place called R & R Paint Supply Inc
5723 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, CA 90805 (562) 428-3648 used to sell their "secret formula" of Healey blue that a lot of restorers liked. I don't know if this contact info is still good. You'll find a lot of info on Healey Blue and most agree that at best, you are going to get a close approximation of the original color. Even the concours standards only require a reasonably close match to the original color.

Here's the formula from a computer scan for PPG Deltron 2000 (DBC) basecoat which requires a clearcoat on top. It's the paint on my car that was taken from the original paint inside the trunk. Bring the formula to a PPG jobber and have them do a sprayout with a clearcoat to see if you like it on your car.

The first number is the "parts" of the formula mix, the second number is the "cumulative" number.

DMD1690 CRS Alum 714.5 714.5

DMD 1686 Fine Alum 90.5 805.0

DX685 Urethane flatening agent 46.1 851.1

DMD1683 Black 38.1 889.2

DMD614 Blue 15.5 924.5

DMD1684 White 3.3 927.8

DMD1689 Clear 76.8 1004.5

It looks like this:

As far as the coves go, the paint is "Olde English White" aka "OEW" Do a search on BCF for that color and you should come up with some modern paint codes.

Thank you Guys. This should get me going. Glad I don't have to search for an exact match.

Pete, not sure if this is helpful, but the ICI paint code numbers are:
Healey Blue: 2697/2301M
Ivory (Old English) White: 2379/2122

I think you would need to find a cross reference to ICI codes.

Wow, great info guys. From everything I've found "Healey Blue" really was a moving target over the different years of production. Some sources think there were as many as three different variations The ICI numbers should get me to where I need to be on this. Thanks to everyone - now off to see my paint guy.

I gave the ICI paint codes to my paint guys and it was matched to a modern Rover paint colour. Looks great and matches the old original colour.

Pete, I believe I saw your car yesterday at Gates of Beauty in Carrboro. Someone sent me the article in the Raleigh paper and I went by there yesterday on my way to Charlotte just to check it out.

The official names for the colors for the BJ8s were Healey Blue and Ivory White (not Old English White), as given on the BMIHT data. The actual shade of white may have been, and probably was, the same as the earlier term "Old English White" but the name changed for BJ8s. I'm not a paint expert, but I gather from the traffic over the years that the BMC ICI codes are not particularly helpful in formulating modern paints. I am on the road until Sunday, but when I get home again I may be able to provide you with actual paint formulas for Healey Blue and Ivory White that have been used by some owners who have been happy with the result.
