Paint color for miscellaneous parts ?

Is there a place where I can find out how all the stuff that attaches to the frame/body is painted such as the vents under the front wings, steering box, steering column, engine attachments, bump boxes etc. Also on another subject I would gladly make a contribution to Reid for his efforts but I don't know how to get money to him. Thanks and have a good day!

John

The Anderson/Moment book covers most of what you need in detail along with the Concours Guidelines. Generally, if it is suspension, brakes or steering it is black (exceptions are the shock bodies and idler body which are usually bare aluminum although they can be protected with a dull clear coat). Most everything bolted on that isn't a body panel or part of the chassis/superstructure is painted black. Convertible top frame is gray including the drip rail along the back. The air vents (if that's what you are talking about) steering box, steering column, bump boxes are all black (more semi-gloss to satin than high gloss). The engine mounts are same color as the engine (healey engine green).

I'm sure Reid would take your contribution but probably better to give some to Basil at BCF. Click on the 'Official Announcement - Be a Supporting Member' message pinned to near the top of the forum messages to learn more. Or you can click on My Stuff (while logged in) then click on Subscriptions from the drop-down menu.

Cheers,
John

Hello Cutlass,

where does one get this "Concours Guide" from? I've heard it mentioned before but only now decided to ask

bundyrum.

I'm not in town right now, so can't give you direct answer. I'll give you more info on my return, but in the meantime, a Google search will probably be productive. It is expensive, but invaluable for the serious restorer.

Another thought. There are a few odd items, such as the battery cut off switch bracket, that are painted body color. Since I took everything apart, I have tried to verify the proper color of each part before painting. Don't assume that the color of the part you have is correct, due to prior restoration attempts.

As a tip, I used Eastwood's Chassis Black for the chassis parts which need a semi-gloss black finish. Eastwood also makes a gloss Chassis Black which seems right for high visibility parts, like the hood and trunk prop rods, hood release rod, etc. The Eastwood product is expensive, and a complete restoration will take upwards of a dozen rattle cans. My protocol was to degrease, bead blast, degrease again, prime with Rustoleum primer, then finish paint. Works pretty well, and lasts.
