Went to my local paint supplier to have a look at 68/70 TR6
Matador Red code # 12 But he did not have it. He did have Signal Red and Pimento but no Matador. Checked in the Moss catalogue for paint codes and it is there but with no manufactures numbers. That page forgot the best color! Valencia blue, which was used on many Triumphs that were in rallies and other races. It's kind of a lost color, but it did exist, and it did come from the factory.

According to Bill Piggot's book on TR's, Matador Red (code # 12) is indeed a trim color. TR6's were available in Signal Red, Pimento and later, Carmine Red. Those code numbers are 32,72, and 82 respectively. Does your car have any of those on the commission plate? Piggot's book also mentions that both body color and trim were on the plate.

Thanks all. I was just curious as Moss showed Matador in their paint codes but with no manufacturer #'s. I pulled the com. plates off without even looking at them when I first started tearing the car down. They are in a box somewhere. The car is a 70 and had never been painted (original 2 tone, red and RUST!) Must be Signal Red but I will confirm when I dig out com. plates. Thanks again...
