Anyone have the paint code for RENO RED ? This would be for
a 1956 BN2.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,
in the Austin Healey restoration bible(Anderson and Moment restoration guide)
only the available paint, trim colors and combinations are mentioned at page 41.Not the ICI paint codes.
The Reno Red ICI code number for your 100 BN2 is 3000,
as stated in the"Original Austin-Healey 100,100/six and 3000" restorer's guide by Anders Ditlev Clausager at page 49.

Regards

Fer

Mike - per Pikovnik's Austin-Healey Guide to Historic Colors, p 7 - Reno Red -
Mfg. Code - RD.14
ICI Code - 3000
Good Luck

Thanks y'all !! Got Anderson/Moment book and didn't even think of looking in there !

I have a BN2 Reno red (original color). When I first repainted it I got the original nitro lacquer (3000) from ICI Belco (the original manufacturer) from the UK. It matched the remaining paint (under the tail of the gearbox) perfectly.

Subsequent repainting found nitro not available anymore. The closest match I could find (on the car now, maybe just a shade too dark)is PPG Duracryl Acrylic lacquer DDL72580 that I got from William Wolf and Co. Equivalent in Acrylic enamel for chassis, etc. is DuPont Centari 51078A. I sent them a sample painted with the Belco lacquer and they matched it. I have the mixing codes if you need them.

I was also going to ask if anyone has the paint code for CARMINE RED.

I have a 1954 Healey 100, which the heritage certificate says is that color.

The car was rebuilt and resprayed by the previous owner in a red that is Tartan red ? This does not quite look like the MG Tartan red.

Does anyone know what an original CARMINE RED looks like ? Is it dark ?
Or is it in fact very similar to the Tartan red ?

I do not think it was anything like the jaguar CARMIN red or the HEALEY COLORADO RED that are both of a slightly orange tinge, whereas the colour it is now is what I would describe as a blueish red -- a bit rasberry.

Bob,

I assume RAL is the ICI code rather like others on here have mentioned Reno as 3000 ?

I will be at Goodwood all three days as usual in the pre 66 car park.
So, if I see any other red 100's I am going try to compare.

On your advice of the Colour number, I am also going to a local paint factor to check out the true colour.

Thanks
JOHN

John

Not sure of my facts here but I believe that RAL seems to have taken over in the Architectural world - certainly in Britain any way, from any BS or ICI code when specifying colour on buildings.

Cheers

Bob
