Paint and primer recommendations for brake drums

Eastwood sells a nice brake caliper paint. I used the gold on both my front calipers and my back drums and was happy with the results. Claims to be able to stand the heat but since I have yet to drive the car I can't testify to that one way or another.

Duplicolor high heat has a nice flat aluminum that's not over the top. Also in many other colors if it's bling you're after.

For the TR4 (don't know about the 6) I think original was a gloss black. I used engine paint and it has held up fine.

In my opinion, black looks best with wires, aluminum doesn't do as fine a job of setting off the wires appearance.

You're going to have to put something more substantial than those plastic paint buckets under your frame when you load the engine & tranny onto it...

I agree with Geo Hahn,

"Rust Oleum Primer" & an engine paint looks & works great. also agree with a Gloss finish.

I did the drums on a `55 MGTF I had & painted them "Body Color" (Red). Really looked good thru the wires.

Have fun,

Russ

FWIW, I used a Rust-O-Leum High Heat silver. I have steel wheels so I suppose it really didn't matter what color I used once the wheel is on. I liked how it looks with the wheel off though! I agree with Geo that the black would probably offset the wire wheels better.

According to Piggott's "Original Triumph", steel-wheeled sidescreen brake drums were painted black at the factory, while wire-wheeled cars could be painted black, aluminum, or silver. I used Dupli-Color Engine Enamel ("with ceramic"...) Aluminum on my TR3A (Alfins on the rear) and its worked really well. Finished smooth, cleans up well, and no subsequent issues with heat damaging the finish. Think I bought it at Autozone.

Hi guys - thanks for all of the responses and pictures.

I picked up some Duplicolor Brake Caliper (and drum) black paint. Nearly done blasting and cleaning them up, will get some pictures up later.

That silver looks good!
