Heck, I remember many a person that disconnected the odometer (and speedo) so-as to lessen the mileage and keep their parents in the dark. 'Course, you really can't do that these days with the way cars are configured... and probably a good thing (though not for teenagers).

An old friend was told not to take one of the parents cars out while they were away one evening. He did... but disconnected the speedometer. When his dad returned home, he came to him and sternly asked why, although the odometer read the same, the engine was still rather warm. :nonono:
