Overfilled gearbox?

I just finished changing the gearbox and overdrive fluid (Redline MT90) in my BJ8. I think I have overfilled it. When I looked in the owner's manual I saw that the gearbox capacity is 6.9 US Pints and the overdrive capacity is 1 3/4 US Pints. I added these together for a total of 8.65 Pints, but now I suspect that 6.9 is the total for the gearbox AND the overdrive unit. I stopped after adding 8 pints and it does show well over the full mark on the dipstick.

So, first, can someone confirm that the total capacity is indeed only 6.9 Pints? Second, do I need to drain out a pint out of the gearbox - will it do some harm if it is overfilled?

I made the same calculation as you and stopped to check the level after adding the 4 qt. only to find it was already overfull. I didn't notice any ill effects from having it overfull.
Since that time, I drained out the MT90 and filled it up with Valvoline VR-1 60W oil. I my case, that cured some symptoms I had which are probably due to something worn in my o/drive. I had searched old posts and found one were Keoke said that is what he had been using for the last 20 years.
... I hope Keoke is starting to adjust.

My info shows 6.25 imperial pints, or 3.6 litres, or 7.5 US pints. I would try something (I use a medicine type eye dropper used to measure childrens liquid dosages) to lower the level to the full mark.
 
Thanks Ed and Shorn. I sucked out a pint (no, not a Sam Adams) using a suction gun and the level shows just a whisker above full on the dipstick. Shorn, interesting that your information shows something different than the owner's manual or the shop manual? What's the source?
