My car didn't come with a overdrive and I just add one to the car. Any certain placement of the overdrive switch?
 
There should be a hole on extreme left side of dash on left hand drive car. You should be able to feel it through the vinyl on dash. Cheers, Mike
 
I have a overdrive switch and it goes next to the heater switch but there is very little room. I've been under the dash and there is no hole or punch out. Should I drill a new hole and possibly switch fan switch for the overdrive?

Geo, would it cause an obstacle if the overdrive switch and the heater switch were swapped around? I have not tried it, but was wondering if the overdrive switch might be easier to reach while driving if placed in the heater switch hole so it would be closer to the steering wheel?

I am not the guy to ask as I only have OD on the TR4 and that switch is in a perfect spot (only stalk on right side of the column).

But, to my eye, the stock location of the OD switch on a TR3 looks good for a fingertip flip.
 
The photo of the black and red TR3A which Geo shows, is mine. The heater and the overdrive switches were where you see them when I bought it brand new in May 1958. I never had a problem with the original (correct) positions. With both hands on the steering wheel, you flick one finger off the steering wheel and the up-down lever type switch for the overdrive is in the perfect position. No need to take your hand off the wheel - but if the overdrive switch was where the heater fan switch is, it would be difficult to switch the overdrive - especially at 75 MPH driving around a reverse sloped curve.
 
I actually mounted it tonight and did some flipping around with the fan switch. With the OD switch in the fan hole it's hard to get to the fan switch. I've got to agree with Don that it's in the perfect spot. Curious how it is going to work with my adjustable steering wheel as I think it sticks out more from the dash. I don't have long fingers ether.
