TR2/3/3A Overdrive switch, egg shaped

I recently had a Tr6 type A , OD installed in my 60 TR3A.
it is working very well. However, the egg shaped OD switch is loose on its shaft.
It rotates freely and will pull straight out of the cylinder shaft mount (pulling wires & all).
The mount (thru the dash) itself seems fine. But I'm hopeful someone can tell me how to snug the egg shaped body down.

Here is a picture of an original switch. The slot on the mounting tube has a slot that engages a tab inside the switch. That keeps it from orating, but other that the friction of the tube, it can still be pulled straight out. Maybe you can open up the switch and refurbish the tab (or create a new one from JB Weld!)

Where in Chapin are you at? I get back to Columbia a few times a year and have a 59 TR3A in storage.

I drove for a lot of years with a piece of cardboard in that joint, for just that reason. Remove the 3 screws visible in Jeff's photo, and split the halves apart. Then bend or fill as necessary, so the tube gets clamped firmly when you put the halves back together.

In my case, the switch itself finally quit working, so I picked up a new one from TRF.
 
I've often wondered: Why does that switch have that look/size?

Seems like an ordinary toggle switch would serve. On a TR4 (same OD) the switch is just a little thing operated by a stalk on the steering column nacelle.

Rotated the shaft where the slots are correct . Then i dug around and found a slit rubber grommet that I'm sliding over the wires at the back of the mount, behind the dash, a spot of silicone adhesive, and that should hold it.
 
I get that question about the TR3 od switch"why is it so big and stand out so much?"
I can only say ,after only 2k miles experience ,that it is the perfect size and placement for me to flip the switch with the tip of my index finger,both hands on the wheel.

I agree. Early cars actually had a simple push-pull switch (like the wiper switch) in the same location, but I think it would be annoying (and potentially dangerous) to have to take one hand off the wheel to operate it. The long "egg shaped" switch body also makes the actual travel at the tip of the lever very short. It would be more difficult IMO if the pivot were nearer the dash with a long lever.
That switch was also used on the Standard Vanguard before the TR2/3, so it may have been a matter of using what they had available.

I had the same problem. Open it up and use two sided sticky tape wrapped around the shaft. Mine has held for two years so far.
