Overdrive Question

I am in the process of cleaning/rebuilding the overdrive. Got it mostly apart today. The question is, should the accumulator piston come out easily? Everything else has come apart easily. This one is in there really tight and short of a very powerful magnet I have no thoughts as to how it would come out. I am a bit suspicious of the unit as it came with a parts car and have never run it. The accumulator housing is missing and it looks to have been apart before. Thanks for your advice. Steve

The rings are probably stuck to the bore. Try soaking it with a good penetrant oil for a few days and try it again.

Patience is the key for avoiding damage...

Steven, please note if the accumulator housing is missing but the piston is stuck in the unit. You most likely have a Triumph OVD or the PO modified it for ralley use. Properly installing this OVD on to the Healey will require obtaining; Accumulator housing, new piston, "O" rings or Rings and Spring.---Fwiw---Keoke
