Overdrive Leaking Oil

Hi,
I have a 1967 BJ8. It is leaking oil from the overdrive unit on the lever shaft. I see there is an o ring there. Can that be replace without taking the who transmission? How do you fixed the leak. Any suggestions welcome?

Can that be replace without taking the whole transmission out?

AS I remember that may be possible. However, the preparatory work includes at least 80% of that to remove the tranny and you still may not have adequate working space.

Is there any temporary fixed to stop the leak? Silicone around joint?

I doubt that approach will work because of the oil.

If it's the little leaver on the right side of the OD than the answer is yes and secondly it's easy!

I've just done it, you'll need the oring and new roll pin.

Remove the transmission tunnel, drive out the roll pin, pry the leaver off the shaft (it needed a bit more force than I thought it would, but it wasn't excessive), fish out the oring with a pick (it will be likely as hard as an old boot), new oring in and all else in reverse. Of course top up the fluid.
