Overdrive Leak

Howdy all:

I've finally diagnosed my overdrive leak. Fluid is leaking at a serious rate from the freeze plug at the very bottom of the overdrive unit, next to the giant brass screw-in drain plug. When the tranny is warm, the fluid drips very quickly, so it's a serious leak.

It appears that it has leaked in the past -- the freeze plug bears the scars of being inartfully whacked with a hammer, and I suspect it's now pretty badly out of shape. I haven't been able to identify a replacement in the Moss or Victoria British catalogs. Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing the leak in an expeditious way?

Sorry, never had a need to replace that plug. I have replaced the engine freeze plugs often however. If you're sure ite a freeze plug you could measure it and compare it to an engine freeze plug, careful there are two different sizes on the engine. Normally you can use a hammer and punch and gently tap on one side to remove. Don't forget to drain the OD first. I use a gasket sealer on the new plug before tapping in. I try and find a similar size socket to tap the plug in tightly. I don't have any photos but hopefully others will chime in.

Well Bill, when the tranny is cold you can try cleaning the surface around the plug with acetone then apply a coat of JB Weld to seal it if you do not want to replace it.--Fwiw--Keoke---
