Okay, enlighten me.

I just called a friend in North Bend (same state as this seller), who 18 months ago bought a Lotus-engined Jensen-Healey roadster for $1500.
That's the correct number of zeroes.

Needed valves, I did the research for him on stainless motorcycle vales, he fixed it, nothing wrong with the car.

So, what makes a Lotus-powered Cortina worth as much as he's asking, with a stuck motor?

Just enlighten me.

There are all sorts of nooks and crannies of collectibility out there, maybe the "ralleye" car bit is what drives the price.

Mine was a De Lotus car. the previous owner blew it up racing. He installed a VERY SCARY Formula ford motor

Paid $600 in 1975

I still have the Cortina,& it's still for sale.
It's a different car than the one on the link.
Lotus Cortinas are rare,so they command a higher
price.Are they worth the extra $$$$?Only the buyers know
for sure.

I'm banging my head onna floor of th' garage now.

If I ~had~ any money it'd be gone. Spare engines litterin' th' hovel. That thing has an intact front chassis.

Quite simply, market forces...... If you saw what genuine Lotus Cortina MkIs are fetching in the UK now you'd understand. With respect, Doug's car isn't a Lotus version and is a MkII model as well. Even replicas of the Lotus Cortina are bringing big money. A genuine car sold for ÂŁ37,364.00 at auction in October of last year, and it did not have a competition history....... If you do the math, at today's exchange rate you are looking at a conservative value of $56,793.00!

Considering the overall condition of this car I would suggest that it would be worth taking a punt on this one......

All Jensen Healey roadsters had Lotus 907 engines. I have one inna back yard for guests to "anoint" when th' necessary is occupied. :devilgrin:
