Out with antenna, in with mirror

Got a small amount of motivation tonight and pulled the panel behind the RH front wing so I could remove the old radio antenna and install a mirror. Due to the cracks in the doors the door mounted mirrors no longer function -- and I removed the radio so the antenna was now superfluous. A quick Moss order and a new Lucas mirror arrived. Works reasonably well, and nicely plugs the old radio antenna hole.

That's an interesting idea. I have a plastic plug in my antennae hole (and no mirror on that side at all). I may consider doing that.
My car still has the stock, AM-only radio. I've been thinking of replacing with a little storage cubby of some sort.

I like the MG radio blanking plate (especially on the steel dash cars) so just went with that -- though a nice little cubby would work well to fill the console slot on your car.

Once nice side effect of this little project is that I got behind that splash panel and got a good look at that inner structure. It's in perfect shape -- this car was definitely restored at some point in its past. Still need to pull the other side and clean it out as well. I am pleased that the deeper I go into this car, the better it looks I really did luck out when I found this one.

Oh and that mirror -- it works, but can't say it's all that useful. At least it fills the hole and makes me a bit more legal on the road.

Yeah, I like those little mirrors. I bought a pair for the Austin, but since it's still in progress, I put one on the Red Rat.

As you say, I don't know how well it works, but it keeps things legal and is better than nothing.
And I do like the way they look.

It's a bit quirky, but a bunch of fun. I specifically wanted a RHD car when I went looking for this one -- always had a fascination, so it was time to try it out.

Next project gonna be that "crack of doom", then?

I'm having the roadster resprayed, and while it's there it's having both sides reinforced.

It's on the list... driver's side is worse than the passenger side but it's there on both sides. I'll admit that sorting out a side mirror was step one in this process.

Some rust on the bottom of both doors as well, so it'll be strip-fix-repaint on both. Some day...
