Shirley and I worked a car show that our club put on Saturday. It was heald at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. This was nearly all American iron which we also enjoy.

But yesterday we were at a meeting of our garden railroad club.

Once in a while I post something about this just because we enjoy it so much.

These are of a backyard railroad in Middleton Wisconsin. The C18 2-8-0 Rio Grande locomotive is a live steam model. It produces it's own steam just like the real ones. A few thousand if you are wondering. https://www.accucraft.com/

Neat "other". Never lost the fascination of looking at a model railroad layout.

Are those tracks outside? I remember you posting some photos where the trains were in a glass domed building. How well do the rails and model buildings hold up to the elements?

These are outside in the backyard. We have members that have had track outdoors for nearly 20 years with very few problems.

Many of us have outdoor layouts, we did before we moved last fall. We also donate time and effort to run trains for charities and places like hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. The inside photos were of the Mitchell Park Domes in Milwaukee. We run there every year from mid January to a couple weeks before Easter. Not sure how much we raised for different charities the last few years but several years ago when I was club president we raised over $350,000 dollars total and benefited many organizations.

These photos are at the Domes.
One is my buddy Dave talking serious train stuff with some eager listeners.
Shirley and I with our youngest grandchild.
And a photo across the layout which changes every year.

Lovely!

My Dad worked for Canadian National and before that, he worked on the London Transit "tubes".

As a little boy in Cavan (Ireland), a narrow-gage rail ran through his family farm. That same narrow-gage train is now part of the ~Pine Creek Railway~ in Allaire State Park here in NJ. We've all ridden on "the Cavan train"..

The ~Whippany Railway Museum~ is right down the street from our house.

I have a collection of about 50 stationary model steam engines that I've designed and built.

I built a model subway system in my backyard. Here is a photo of my pride any joy. De-railing is a pain though.

Yeah, I have a very similar "model subway system" in my backyard.

We have a Summer house in Cranberry Lake, NJ.
Around 1903 local railroad workers build their own steam-powered model railroad and gave rides. It was all part of a promotional thing for the local railroad back then.

~Click Here~ to see an old picture of it.

Greg, that is great! Maybe we could hold a club meeting there and bring our own shovels so we can see it, maybe post hole diggers would work best!

Nial, there are several ride-on trains in 7 1/2" and 15" gauge around Wisconsin. A few come to mind. One in Wisconsin Dells, another near Hudson, and one at Marshall. Also the one at the zoo in Milwaukee County.

I love back-yard railways  !! (those back-yard subways are pretty darned impressive too!! :jester:)

Nial, I am sure you are aware of Allaire Village State park, are you not? We used to take the kids there all the time when they were young 'uns!! Not exactly Garden railways, but rather Park railways. Definitely worth a visit by anyone in the area (South Jersey) who is also into old trains and history!!

Then there is this awesome video that has been posted on the forum before!...

When I see trains I'm still a little boy at heart!!

That is just great Tom. Those kids do seem to be enjoying it.
