Our Christmas drive home

The drive home from the in-laws place was a little exciting. A good winter storm hit Utah, so it took about twice the normal time home. We were in my Honda Fit (with good snow tires), so it was uneventful if slow. Then we hit our street...

My area had gotten 13"+ of snow since we left on Christmas Eve, and the street had not been plowed at all. So down the hill we went, in my little car with just a couple inches of ground clearance. All was fine until we hit the end of our driveway. I didn't want to stop in the street, so it was banzai into the driveway. We made it about one car length in, just enough to be out of the way.

We were just pushing way too much snow. The car wasn't so much stuck as it was stopped. Snow tires don't help when the snow is above the bottoms of the doors -- I guess the Fit isn't a good choice for a snow plow.

A couple hours of shoveling/snowblowing/roof clearing and all was well again.

Gah. I have vivid recollection of snow like that. Even tho it's been nearly thirty years is scares me.

....I'm heading for the front yard to bury myself in some warm sand now.

I'm thinking more and more about warmer climes... spent a couple hours on the roof chiseling away ice and shoveling off snow. Stupid winter.

gawd....

I'll assume YOU have car insurance, Drew. :smirk:

I do, Doc. I'd just need a job. Oh, and money. And a place to live...

Someday, maybe. For now, I'll just whine a bit and endure the snow. It's really nice here in the summer.

You can live in my garage if you keep the cars maintained. It's really clean, but I disconnected the heat and air a few months ago, so it's probably 40-degrees in there about now.

That is it Drew you just keep telling everyone how miserable it is here in Utah Maybe they will either stay where they are or decide to go somewhere else when they move. I liked it when we were only one million people here in the whole state better than now. I heard on the news the other day that Utah is the fastest growing state in America! Someone has let our secret out!I will sacrifice four months of snow and cold for the other 8 months of bliss!
Besides it gives me time to service and tune up the Motorhome and A.T.V.`s for the next round of Summer fun ..... are you going to ride with us again next summer? You are more than welcome you know .....

I've got a warm sleeping bag, Steve, and can think of far worse jobs than maintaining a fleet of MGs

You're right, Kerry, most of the year is really quite nice here; I'm just not a winter sort. My county (Wasatch) is the 7th fastest growing in the nation, so it can't be all that bad, just cold. We'll be in touch next summer, I had a blast riding with y'all.

James -- my in-laws are really nice folks (father-in-law even lets me borrow his BMW touring motorcycle on occasion). You just deal with the winter driving here. It takes a truly raging blizzard here to shut things down.

We had the A/C on the whole four and a half hours of our drive home.

Brutal sunshine. :jester:

Thanks, Doc. That helps a lot.

"Let's hope it's a good one..."

Thanx Scotty. We'll go as far as we can.
