OT - Oreos and soy milk

So remember that I live in SoCal, and we are required to drink soy milk down here. Anyway in case you never tried dunking an oreo in soy milk - nothing happens. You can hold the oreo in the soy milk for one, two, three minutes and it remains impervious. I was convinced that they mucked around with the way they make them and ruined the darn things. You know, like how Twinkies don't have a proper sugar crunch any more.

Well have no fear, I just tried them with milk and all is well. I am no doubt sure that many, if not all of you, are gratifyingly relieved. And quite well you such be. All is right in that little bit of the world...

Say it aint so.... :nonono:

Twinkie wiener sandwich with no crunch? Evil absolutely evil.

Since I was taught to believe that milk came fron mammals to nurse their young,I have always been suspicious of "soy" milk. I have never seen mama soy bean nursing her young sprouts with anything but water.I also have similar questions about tofu turkeys and soy masquerading as bacon. HMMM? If an oreo wont allow soy milk to be absorbed into it, could the oreo possibly know something So-Cal inhabitants dont? It might explain some strange behavoir that has been going on out there for years. That oreo is one smart cookie. Not really sure what this has to do with Triumphs but here in NH,raw cows milk and oreos tastes a lot better than soy milk and we always save an oreo for the cow. Bon Apetite

Soy milk???

Next thing you'll tell me is that you don't have real sweet tea in SoCal.

Around here you can't even get Soy milk you have to drive to a city to get some.

Soy "milk" is a contradiction.

...as an adjunct OT tidbit: REAL milk can be used to test a container for leaks. Talkin' GAS TANKS and fuel containers. Water will NOT go thru seams/cracks, etc where gasoline WILL. Milk is willing to wick thru defects the same as gasoline.

This was taught to me by a guy born in 1889. My gran'far. It works.

Where's my cookie?!?! :smirk:

Difficulty with real milk is that once we grow past infancy our systems lactose intolerance problems occur.

So other than putting in tea/coffee or on top of cereal, our digestive system is better off with alternatives..

Now soy usage is starting to show a few problems in areas that are intensively investigating it...

I myself prefer almond milk...

But with oreos, real milk is the only liquid to dunk in..

If it is not Milk from a mammal it is not Milk! Dairlyline As a son of a dairyman I'll defend Milk till the cows come home. Soy is loaded with phyto-estrogens that mimic estrogens produced by our bodies (there are soy-products used to help women during menopause, that are "safe" because they are "natural"). Just because it came form a plant does not mean it is "safe". If you are lactose intolerant lactose free milk is available or just add some lactase enzyme (very cheap) to your milk. Now is the time to support the US dairy industry while it still is here. If we do not we'll be getting our food from China and I prefer not to have melamine in my Cheerios!

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...................

P.S. The owner of Alta Dena Dairy is a great friend of our family!

Merriam-Webster disagrees.

1 a : a fluid secreted by the mammary glands of females for the nourishment of their young; especially : cow's milk used as a food by humans b : lactation <cows in milk>
2 : a liquid resembling milk in appearance: as a : the latex of a plant b : the juice of a coconut composed of liquid endosperm c : the contents of an unripe kernel of grain

Well thank goodness my wife and I don't seem to have any problems with milk (yet) as we approach the big 50 this year. I still have a glass with dinner every night.

It's still my son's favorite drink at age 16 (suprisingly) so he's at least inherited the appreciation for a cold glass of milk.

I drink rice milk with my cereal, fat free for the rest of the meals.

Then whatever you do, don't let him taste actual fresh milk! I learned many years ago what fresh milk should taste like (if it had been out of the cow for 24 hours, it got fed to the hogs), but today you can get arrested for selling it!

I'll have to admit that I've never had fresh milk in my adult lifetime, but when I was very young I'm sure that I did as my great-grandfather alway had at least a couple cows around. Unfortunately, I was apparently too young to remember the taste.

Growing up on a farm you got nothing but REAL milk. Just give the container a good shake before pouring a wonderful glass of refreshment. I don't care for the pasturized stuff and soy...please.
