original versus replacement bumpers

Bought what I had been told was an "original" rear bumper
for my BN6. Knew it needed replating but as the originals
are superior to the replacement went ahead and got it.
My question is - didn't the original bumpers have an almost
wavy surface on the interior of the bumper as opposed to
a perfectly smooth interior surface like the new ones ?
Wavy may be the wrong word but it was not smooth, correct ?
Thanks,
Mike

if i remember (and u can't count on that)from when i sold my originals
they were not smooth or finished inside
the original ones weight in around 10 pounds w/o upright ugly bumperets
and repo weight around 6 w/o bumperets
thats how i made the call on the originals over aftermarket

I wouldn't say the originals were particularly wavy inside but I'd say they certainly didn't fuss with the inside surface of the bumpers which is why they were finished in a matt or dull silvery finish to hide this fact.

Well I do not know what you mean by a smooth interior surface on the hew ones?? However, Yes there is a small partially round ridge on the inside of the original bumper which allows the bumper guard to set flush against the outside of the bumper.Similarly, there are Bumper spacers which are curved to match this ridge anf fit on the inside of the bumper.Fwiw--Keoke

Mike, a sure way to tell an original bumper is to take an original over rider and place it on the bumper. The over rider will fit correctly, a non original bumper it will not, their usually a little larger/wider etc. you also can see a difference in the curvature of the bumper around the fenders.
