This week and original Jaguar long-nose D-Type showed up at Cars and Coffee. 9 made - 7 still exist - two in the US - and this one is driven.

Thanks for posting the great photos. That's a lovely machine.

I can't imagine driving such a rare, expensive car. Once the price gets up around a couple hundred thousand, I'd be as nervous as a cat driving one!

Can you imagine what you'd do if someone yakking on a cell phone rear-ended you in that D-type? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

the guy in the black Jag next to the D-type told me that this car wasn't estimated at 3mil /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Covet, covet, covet... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Thanks for the photos. What a car. Wow. That it is still driven is wonderful news, as well -- doing what it was made for makes it all the more beautiful.

The badges on bonnet and boot would indicate so. What was on 'em?

Just noticed, it's the same car!! The historic plates are the same. He must have got it repainted, changed the racing number and added the registration numbers.

He used to be there almost every weekend

green with Envy

Fabulous car! Just wish Calgary ever got stuff like that, wishful thinking perhaps...

He just changed the number only - the patina on the paint is still there

The chasis number is XKD604

It's Patina - I shot this pic two weeks ago, thinking it was a really good kit car that had developed a few spider-cracks. Found out this week that it is the real deal. It's funny that out of all the times I went to Crystal Cove, I never saw this car. I did see a couple of good Kits, but must have missed this one.

Tom Mittler *raced* ~This One~ at this years Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (it's real...not a replica).

There is a guy in a shop here in New Jersey that took an XJ-6 and built a really nice D-type replica from all the running bits. The body on the car is all hand-beaten aluminum. I asked him where he got the dimensions and construction info? He told he that he just built it "from looking at photos" and had never seen a real one. Amazing! He's brought it to the Moss Motors show here. There is also a Lynx replica locally...a few years ago, they were both at the Moss show, which was a real treat.

But....I don't see his Handicap Parking permit.

(Sorry....pet peeve as I have a son who depends upon his wheelchair to be his legs.)

Flame suit zipped up and helmet on!

Not a kit, rather a turn-key car. All from English wheel and hammers. Get in and drive off. Not nearly like the real thing, but a "reasonable facsimilie thereof" if you like the car and have the lolly.

At that show, a spot out in the middle of the lot would be far more convenient to a handicapped person than the handicap spot itself!

A friend from the past would race his Chevy-V8 D-Jag down in Opelousas, Louisiana, back in the late '50s and early '60s. That was before there were kit cars. Nice to be rich.
