How often are the air filter really soaked in kerosene and re oiled? I know mine have not been attended to in many years. I've used gas to soak "clean" and any oil on hand to re soak the mesh. What is the consensus of the group other than changing to other type of filter?

I haven't had stock air cleaners on mine since 1985, but I think if I was using them today, I'd be experimenting with something like the K&N or ITG "filter maintenance kits" (cleaner & oil).

On OEM filters. kerosene, paint thinner or diesel and cheap motor oil annually.

AT least once a year- TH - I use Petrol..
 
Hi All,

I clean and oil my original filters once a year. I usually checked the back cleaner because it would get dirtier faster as a result of being connected to the sump/valve-cover tube … especially in dry dust-prone weather cycle. A few years ago, I connected an oil catch can between the back cleaner and sump/valve-cover line and now the rear cleaner stays cleaner as long as the front with both cleaned once a year.
