Ordering parts from England for delivery to the US

I have order many times and am usually pretty impressed with the delivery time. I would say on average, I get the parts in 5-6 days to the West coast. I just got my average destroyed. I ordered on the 15th of April, it arrived in customs at New York on the 16th, went to the delivery depot on the 17th, and we have not seen it yet. The tracking does not transfer to the US post office. Can the US post office back track to the Parcel Post number?

Waiting!

I've never had anything go through customs. Call the post office to find out what the procedure is. They have a national watts number.

Re: Ordering parts from England for delivery to th

I have ordered several items from Cape Sports. They both took between two and three weeks to reach my local post office. The three week one was in December during Christmas package time.

It all goes through Customs, it is just a quick pass or in this case, it got left on a shelf. Our company has a special license that allows us to essentially vouch for the imports and it passes customs right away. Too bad I can't get work to order my british parts! Small orders seem to move right along. I wanted some chrome parts that added up to a larger bill this time.

Yeah TH, all international dealers have a license that asserts they are not trading in contraband. This license whisks their packages through customs. However, if you as an individual were to try and ship some of these same items customs would stop open and inspect the package causing a significant delay in its delivery or no delivery at all depending on the item. For example, if your item had electric wires hanging on to it, it probably would not be shipped. CUZ customs personnel would think the recipient was makin bombs--Keoke--

The rules for customs are very strange. The government had decided that frequent shippers are not usually the problem. Our Parent company ships 2000-3000 40 ft cargo containers per month into the US. With that volume, they are on a special permit that allows the company to self inspect. My little division receives radioactive shipments and the customs people know our little company and the ordering patterns well enough to pass most of the products through without delay. We only get caught up about once a year when someone new gets on the job.

The paperwork is a nightmare.

The US post office should recognize the UK tracking numbers. I would go down to your local post office and ask them to run a trace. The USPS can be a bit annoying at times, but they tend to be pretty good about this type of stuff. I doubt it is in customs, I bet it just got misplaced somewhere. It'll be found.

Went down there and they could not track it beyond when it left customs. They said sometimes they cannot see the Express Mail portion of the USPS. Of course, I withheld my comment about "isn't it the same company".
So I called the 800 line for Express Mail. You get caught in a loop of their automated service. It is impossible to find a live body. I finally found a number on the web site and eventually got someone to say that the package looks lost, they will attempt tracking but that I should consider getting the SHIPPER to file a claim.

So I have sent AH Spares a note asking them to file a claim. I sure could use those parts. I could then finish the doors and have a driving car.
We got the windshield on yesterday. The seal from Healey Surgeons is easier to work with. It also has a longer tongue, so may seal againist the body better.
I guess I will work on the convertible top frame today.

One recommendation. The suppliers tend to be pretty good. Ask them to resend the order. If the one that is lost shows up, then you can return the parts to AH spares for a full refund.

I've done this a couple times before, usually everyone in the UK is very happy to oblige.

I wanted to give an update on this issue. AH Spares sent replacement parts. They arrive one day before the lost package. The lost package was sitting in SFO express mail storage for 35 days. The post office let me refuse the original shipment and it will be returned to England free of charge to me!
