I have a 63 Sprite, nearly stock (exhaust from a 10CC engine), not presently running. I WAS going to put her back together and sell her. Changed my mind, decided to keep her as a weekend driver. Changed my mind AGAIN, now I want to use her as a daily driver, what with the price of gas and such.
My plan is to keep her as stock as possible, HOWEVER, I am looking at my options to make her as reliable as possible. To that end , I am thinking about:
1)Changing to an altenator.
2)Swapping out the diff, for something more appropriate for my use. 38 miles one way to work, 27 of that is Interstate.
What else am I missing?

Thanks,
Don

Disc brake conversion?
Welcome by the way, and good luck with the projects....

YMMV, but I'm not sure the alternator is that critical. If you haven't added a lot of extras, the generator should be able to cope nicely.

For the interstate, I'd consider swapping in the later 1275 motor. 63 cars still have the 4.22 rears, right? A 3.9 rear would help with those higher speeds. 5-speed conversion would be nice too, but a bit more pricey.

Your 63 should already have disc fronts, so you're good to go there. Can't think of any thing else off hand. These are tough little cars.

I own a '64. I was more for reliability than stock.

I would upgrade the following depsnding our your budget:

Swap from Positive Earth to Negative Ground
Add DPH Altenator for more juice
Petronix Ignition
Disc brakes in front (?) (or just don't race)

I switched my differential - but I forget which was I went and am begining to think it was wrong to do. Others here will pipe in on the topic.

Good Luck

Nice Items:

Halogen conversion on heaplamps (Hella brand looks stock)
Oil Cooler

I have a 63 also. Drive mine most every day in the summer. Changed Pos To neg ground. Alt conversion. replace 2 fuse block with a 10 place fuseblock. Used relays for the headlights. Pertronix. Put the datsun 5 sp converison in.Gear drive starter. CD player and speakers. Rain is no fun it leaks water in everywere. But all in all I love to drive it, and get 36 mpg around town ( if I can keep my foot out of it )

HALOGENS, what a bright idea! Sorry about the pun, halogens are now on my list!

Thanks

Don, I've got the Hella halogen conversions on my '65, which is still running the positive ground generator. Got tons of light, and no charging problems.

Miss Agatha has Halogens as well.

I pulled the stock halogen bulbs out of a junk Datsun 210 and my stock generator has no problem powering them at all and I can actually see on the freeway at 70.
