Options for the Supra

Well, with the pending sale of the Z-28 that I bought ( and the $3000 in profit I'm going to make) my MG situation looks quite a bit brighter, and I should have at least 2-3 cars running and driving without difficulty in the next 3-4 months.

That eliminates the NEED for me to sell the Turbo Supra, and then a buddy with an offhanded comment said I should consider putting it in the GRM $2007 Challenge.

I am wondering if this would be feasible. I already have a few people who have volunteered to put their time and talents into it, but does anyone have a real good evaluation experience-wise with these cars? Is it going to be something that would be feasible?

My best friend owns a 97 Supra TT, I've spent many nights under that car helping him do various mods and tweaks. I've also driven it quite a bit and can honestly say that is, in my opinion, easily the best sports/GT car that Toyota has ever built. I don't know what year your car is but if it's a mark IV Supra they are pretty potent in stock form. More power can easily be pulled out of that motor for very little money. I'd say 350-375 horse at the wheels is attainable on a budget. He's running a set of Eiback springs and struts and strut tower braces front and rear and that really helped tighten up the handling. He's also got upgraded brakes all around that help with the stopping. However the car looks bone stock on the outside, even the wheels, and as a result shows really well. He runs the car routinely at Pocono raceway on open track days and also at Island and Englishtown drags here in NJ. The car is so flexible that it does both pretty well, usually only requiring a change of rear tires. These cars seem very capable wherever you put them.

Kudos to him. I always thought that Supras looked great from the factory, I never understood why people feel the need to rice them out so much.

Yeah, he's very much into keeping the car looking original. He had talked about getting a set of Racing Hart wheels for it awhile back but never got around to it. About the only thing that would give the car away is the aftermarket exhaust with larger muffler and tip. He's running an HKS superdragger system I believe with a free flow cat. The car sounds really mean and throaty, not anything obnoxious like the riced out 4 banger Civics. It firmly supports the opinion that straight 6's are naturally sweet sounding engines, but of course I'm biased. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Here's a view of the posterior, you can see what I mean about the exhaust. You could shoot grapefruit out of that thing!

My son is a supra fanatic from the get go. He started out with a non-turbo 87, has had an 86.5 five speed and now is tweaking and running a 90 turbo. The power that these cars have with very little mods is incredible. I love the rumble it puts out without any of those ricer mufflers you see on the civics. I think that 7mgte straight 6 is by far one of the finest and best running motors toyota ever produced.

Actually it appears with my move to Little Rock, I am going to have to sell this Supra.

It is an 87 Turbo with the 7M-GTE 5 speed. If Im going to bring cars with me, it will be MG's, so the Supra will either go for sale locally or on ebay in the coming days.

Dotanukie,

That is one of the nicest Supras I've ever seen. I could understand a set of tasteful aftermarket wheels, but other than that, it looks perfect.

Thanks, I'll pass on the compliment to my buddy. He talks about selling it every now and then, putting the money towards a Vette, Lotus Elise, used NSX, whatever his fancy of the week is. For the money these cars are hard to beat though, insanely fast and competent on the road, comfortable, good looking, and being that it is a Toyota it's just not going to break.
