Five of us LBC guys went up to the Ironstone winery for the 14th annual concours show. Lots of beautiful cars, boats and trailers. Buuutt on the way back home, there is a long strech on hwy 4 that is so perfect (straight, good condition and you can see ahead for a couple miles) We put the TR3 at 100mph for a couple miles. The tach read 4500rpm's. no temp. rise ambiant temp was about 95 degrees. The car ran great, no floating or any other scary things happened. Just smooth and exciting. So I got that out of my system for another year. Now back to the posted speed limits.

I haven't done that since I was 18 or 19 with my TR4A.

Scott

Hmmm...unless you have an overdrive gearbox, one of your two main gauges is off (no surprise)! The typical TR3 runs @ 1000 RPM per 20 MPH, so 4500 RPM should have been 90 MPH; alternatively, 100 MPH should have been 5000 RPM. Of course, aside from instrument error, tire size can affect readings.

Did you use a GPS or perhaps time a measured mile, or ??? Just curious!

[NOTE: Back when I was driving a "well worn" TR3A in the early 1970s, anything over about 80 MPH indicated seemed to get the front end floating just a bit, and that was pretty much my sanity check at the time!

Tinman58 drives a Toyota w58 trans and I know the stretch of Hwy as it is in my backyard. Just wish I could have gone, but I'm on call this weekend and if I get called out to that part of the country it is never good (big Red & White cows).

Paul

Yea Paul is right, I do have the HVDA toyota trans and some other engine mod's. I can't tell how accurate the speedo is (It stopped working today) I do have another one to replace it while I have the first one rebuilt. 100mph+-, It sure looked cool to have the needle pointing that far to the right.
Paul how about an update on Statler!!

I have a w58 gearbox hooked up to my A.H 3000 and I cruise at 70 MPH tach reads 2,500, and that's with my gps hooked up.
gotta love those toyota gearbox!

Not to change the subject, but Paul, what do you do?

So did I, unfortunately there was a blue and white car with a radar gun waiting for me :cryin: Fortunately he just gave me a written warning.

100 mph in a Hearld? I doubt it! Maybe downhill? :nonod:

Funny! with its aerodynamics I don't think it would hit 100 going OFF the hill. I do have a reasonably modern Toyota which could easily hit 100 mph, but I was only doing ~85 kph to bad it was a 50kph zone.

I thought from the title that this was a Britney Spears moment.

"Statler" is kind of on the back burner. I'm working on the MGA for my parents. I did drop off one of the seats to get it welded as I was just burning through the thin steel where it was cracked. I'm not on call for the next 5 weekends so hopefully I can get some things done

Paul

Hey Paul! Nice cow! But I don't think I have ever seen a red and white cow!

Hereford
I know it is a bull. But at least it is British.....The Orvis Ranch Orvis Ranch takes up most of the both sides of Hwy 4 from Farmington to Copperopolis.
