Opals

Hey, out there! Does anybody remember the Opals, small station wagons of the 60"s and 70's? I am writing a book about my husband & my adventures with British cars, and need to know the years of our white & red Opals. I'd appreciate any info you can give me. Thanks, Annie

Hi Annie! Welcome to BCF! :savewave:

I don't mean to nit-pick, but Opels are German cars. And what wonderful German cars they are.

Do you have any pix you can post of yours? That would help narrow down the years a bit. But even with a pic, spotting an exact year might not be practical.

Funny you should bring them up now, I spotted a beautiful Opel wagon very recently:

Thanks for your answer, but the car I'm talking about is British, not German, and is spelled Opal, not Opel. They have not been seen here in the West for many years, but scrap yard dealers remember them. Annie

Any chance you mean a Vauxhall Opal van? The only other British Opal I could find was a model of Austin, made back in the 30's.

And the junkyard dealers around here don't even know what an Opel is, let alone an Opal.

The only British Opal I know is a convertible version of the 1930s Austin Seven Ruby.
Rare as Hen's Teeth in the US, I should think.

Howdy Folks,

Hey Annie, Now that you have "Everyones" Attn; Why not post a pic a two of what we`re supposed to recognise.

Have Fun,

Russ

Thanks, Russ- I'll post photos of our two Opals sometime this week, and maybe that will help! Annie

Welcome!

Oselli has an Austin Opal for sale right now. -Click Here to See It-

Otherwise,I can't think of any other Opals.

Thats a "Cute" little devil. "Expensive but Cute"!!

Thanx Nial for the pic.

Russ

This is the only Opal that I know of, sold by Buick dealers in the 70s. The spelling from Opal or Opel seems to be used all the time, not sure which is correct. PJ

I just found another,

1967 Buick Opel Kadet

The spelling for the German ones, like the GT's and Kadett you pictured, is with an e.

Annie is insisting that hers were British and spelled with an a.
