I completely refurbished the throttle linkage on the BT7 over the last two days. Getting that transverse rod out is a bi**h. Yes, the tunnel and end cover were removed. That helped. But still no fun.
I put in new teflon bushings from BCS. Nice stuff. But 13 bucks apiece? I dunno. takes four of 'em.
Also, I installed six new little ball joints. Also 13 bucks apiece.
Had to do a bit of lever adjustment to make sure the pedal went all the way from full throttle closed to full throttle open. Watch the upward transvere rod lever that it does not strike the firewall ledge. Adjust as needed. But all is OK now! Works REAL KOOL! Not a bit of slop.
Here's a couple tips if you are tempted to undertake the job:
1. When reinstalling the transvere rod, the one with the bolts that you put in upside down where you cannot see and where on the carb side you cannot reach, do this: use 2 1/4 inch bolts instead of 5/8 inch bolts. Run a couple of nuts down on them and lock them together leaving about a half inch of threads. This gives you a nice long "handle" to find the holes and thread them in. Works cool. Won't get you closer to concourse. But your language will be.
2. On the little bushing cap which captures the right end of the pedal rod, solder the screws to it. This way when you install it you are not fighting to hold screws where you cannot reach anyway on account of the manifold being in the way. You will see what I mean if you get into the project.
Good luck if you try. But I think it is worth it.
