One old problem...One new problem

New problem...Our "bonnet" keeps popping loose at around 50mph or thereabouts. Luckily, the safety catch holds but it's now tied down. This was happening several months ago and I tightened the top "thingy" that has the spring and that solved the problem for several months. It's as tight as I can get it now so...is the only solution a new latch? I figure that's it but...?

Old problem...Some of you may remember that awhile back we caught the driver's door on a wall 2x4 backing out of the garage. Bent the fender some and we're pretty certain that the hinges are bent. Several of you said that you might have a set of hinges. If anyone does, please PM us and let us know a price. Thanks to all.
 
It seems odd the the latch would need adjusting over time to a point that it is as tight as it can now go. Almost seems like some other part of the car body is moving or changing.
 
Before you get a new latch, is the receptacle for the post/hook clean and greased? It may be that it is sticking, and doesn't close enough to capture the post. I had that problem, and after cleaning and greasing, it latched properly.

Worth a shot!

As for the hinges, I'll look around. I have a couple of doors, but the hinges aren't on them. May be buried in one of my black holes here...
 
You may have it backwards, you may need to loosen that top post so that there is enough for the latch to grab. Also, have you checked the spring? If I remember, there is a spring that holds the latch tight. (this is what you pull against when you pull the handle to release the hood)

The better advice!

"Tightening" the hood plunger shortens the latch. Open it up a couple turns before you condemn the catch mechanism. Then use an old lipstick and check where the "witness" marks fall... left/right, fore/aft.

JP...I keep forgetting to thank you. You were absolutely correct. I was "backward thinking" this thing. I loosened the plunger thingy 1 1/2 turns and no more problem!! Mickey...I also greased the latch. Thanks guys.
