I might have been the one who said it.

JP, unless you were in the Chicago area 3-4 weeks ago, it wasn't you.

nah, weren't I but I have said it at Bronte.

Tis ok, but in penance you are sentenced to drive a Yugo for a week! LOL

One of my "one's that got away" was a Skoda - does that count? (Oh and we once owned an Omni  )

However, practically every woman and girl in the region oooohed and ahhhed over it! This seemed to really PO some of the other guys, whose evil eye stares became increasingly obvious as more and more women gathered around my car. It was quite a phenomenon. So much for American muscle cars . . .

Obviously, I had a great time. This experience is living proof that MGs are CHICK MAGNETS!

LOL.

and kid magnets. Last year had a similar experience, was parked in front of a mid 70's vette. Literally every couple that came by, the wife said "Oh, isn't that cute!" and the husband said "look at the Vette."

Re: "Once you've seen one MGB.............."

I thought MGBs were just something you had to wade through to get to the really interesting cars (MGAs).......

With MGBs, the earlier the better - a really nicely restored 63/64 is nice. The MGCs are always interesting, and I have a soft spot (my wife would say in my head) for the early MGB GTs with wires. Afraid I walk by RBB without bothering to look at them.

Bet you've never seen a B like this...

Very cool use of a 77 B. Don't hate me.

Oh my, that is pretty, probably no more a 'B any more than it is a Chevy because of what is under the hood - that is a lot of work!

As a B owner, I'm always pleased to see more MGBs.
But I'm also happy to see scads of Triumphs, TVRs, Healeys, Sunbeams, etc.

Nod

Re: "Once you've seen one MGB.............."

I think it goes beyond the cars. I think it has to do with the owners. I think MG owners are some of the best out there. Always helpful, cordial with each other. A car is a direct reperentation of the owner, and in my opinion, the B represents a lot of fun. All MGB's are a little different, that is how they are supposed to be.

Re: "Once you've seen one MGB.............."

I agree with Justin. And, being a 30+ year Triumph enthusiast before I went over to MGs, I'd say the same about Triumph owners.

Some of the friends I made in the NASS group (North American Spitfire Squadron) are lifetime friends now. One, who helped me install an OD gearbox in my GT6 (Paul Tegler), put me up for the night in his home and fed me two meals (and beer!) when the installation slogged late into a Saturday night and continued the next day. I was 160 miles from home at the time, no place to go. Wonderful hospitality from a Prince of a guy. You don't get that every day.

I've got plenty more stories just like it, guys going waaay out of their way to assist rank stangers in LBCs, fixing stuff free of charge, traveling many miles to help someone stranded.

These cars seem to attract folks of this fine ilk: it's like magic, ethereal.

Great people, LBC enthusiasts. :yesnod:

Re: "Once you've seen one MGB.............."

My 71 MGB is a timewarp. No rust, lots of patina, just getting to the point where I can get it on the road. I like cars that are modified, but in period style. My 78 Spitfire has twin SU carbs, original cracking paint, dealer applied pinstripes, and the tarnished Alamo Sportscars emblum riveted to the trunk. The top has smoe tears, the interior panels have to be replaced, but it's my only car besides the B. The B will again have a few tweaks, but look basically stock and loved. Like others have said, hot rods aren't for me, but I can appreciate the work in them.

I always love the V8 guys making fun of my Spitfire until we get on the road. Not only is my Spit quicker than stock or expected, the suspension is set up for the twisties. Nothing like watching a Camaro or Vette get sideways on an exit ramp behind you...

Re: "Once you've seen one MGB.............."

so, I'm thinking we could sum up this thread with:

"you've seen one MG you've seen them all."
"you've seen one pretty girl, you've seen them all."
"you've seen one sunset you've seen them all."
"you've seen one Christmas you've seen them all."

am I on the right track here?

Re: "Once you've seen one MGB.............."

Don't you have some writing to do?

John-Peter, remember: it's the internet, not General District Court! :yesnod:
