On the subject of oil filters...

While on the subject of oil filters, I've been told that its hard to get filters and so on. I went to an auto parts store here in town and got an AC PF 34 to fit the Spit'. Anyone else use this?

Actually, depending on what's in the way (such as air pumps and the like), the Spitfire is an easy car when it comes to buying filters. The earlier ones, all the way back to the first 1963 models, could take a Motorcraft FL1-A, Fram PH8-A (or PH16 with the adaptor), AC PF-13 (which I've used for years in Spitfires and Heralds), and a bunch more. Same as many 1960s-1980s Volvos, many Saab 99 and earlier 900s, and a bunch of even more common stuff such as Dodges (not sure which ones). The later Spitfires, needing a narrower filter because of air pumps and the like, might be a bit more limited in selection...but then, you found the AC PF-34, and I recall that being a pretty common filter as well.

As far as my TR6 goes, with the spin-off adapter, I have always used the Fram PH3600. Cheap, readily available and very effective. That, plus my Castrol 20W50 oil, and changing both every 2000 miles, my engine smiles.

I've been using Castrol 10-30. Is this the correct weight? The previous owner used this weight and I was afraid to change it. Should I?

[/ QUOTE ]Certainly this should be fine for cooler temperatures. I don't have original Spitfire recommendations handy, but a 10W/40 or even 20W/50 might be that much better for hotter months' driving.
