On Line MG Sale

Hey Guys, I want to try to sell an MGB and a Midget online. I see there is Old Car Trader, Collector Car Trader, and eBay. Waht's the best way to get a wide audience for sale? I have lots of photos and info regarding the cars' history, so it seems to me that a site that allows multiple photos and space for an explanation would be the best. WADAYA think?

Hey Midgey...what year is your MGB. I'm here in Clovis and have a few pals on the prowl for one....guess I'm a bad influence.

eBay provides possibly the widest marketplace for your LBC. And, the beauty of eBay is that it's an auction: you may set the reserve as high as you wish in order to sell the car at your optimal price. If your reserve is not met, the ad cost is minimal and you've lost practically nothing.

Of course, the trick is to set the reserve low enough to encourage competitive bidding. But if you have good documentation (be sure to compose a compact, but highly descriptive narrative in your ad), it significantly adds to the marketability of the car.

I've found that serious bidders absolutely LOVE documentation on eBay and elsewhere. As such, I document every, little detail: fuel mileage; retain all purchase and repair receipts; photos of major mods/projects, etc. I've also had the mechanic who installed a major part (overdrive) to act as a reference for buyers. Many professional mechanics will do so free of charge. This can be highly impressive to potential buyers.

Also, eBay is generally less expensive than the premier antique auto magazines (i.e., if the car doesn't sell on eBay).

I love eBay. I've bought and sold a number of LBCs, personal cars, motocycles and tons of parts there. Never a problem, not one. And, I received better than retail market value every time. In one instance with a GT6, a LOT more than market value!

Nothing to lose on eBay, if you research and do it correctly. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

eBay is a fine venue for collector car sales. It is important to follow the advice Mark K. Brown gives above. I've made the error of not being descriptive enough and had a buyer reject the car when he saw it. Concise, accurate description with documentation is key to a smooth transaction!
