I've been ripping vinyl records all day with my Easy Bake (those over 50 will get the reference) Ion Turn Table. Been making MP3s to add to my already massive iTunes collection. Finished a McCartney Album and a dual Beatles "Love Songs" Album. Currently ripping one of my favorite classical guitarists - Andres Segovia, "The Intimate Guitar/2." Only about 60 more albums and I'll have my entire vinyl collection on my iPhone!

I'm very slowly doing that same process. I have a Behringer U-Phono USB audio interface. It connects my Phonograph (Or other device) to the computer. Currently I'm using Audacity, but it's a fiddly program, and it takes me a while to get it working right. It just takes so much time to set up, edit, then add all the info in, that I'm not progressing so fast.
My latest find is Pandora internet radio. You tell it what kind of music (either song titles, singers, or genre) you like and it creates a station for you. it has like and dislike buttons to tweak the lineup, lyrics, and bookmarks to save songs you like. you can buy and download songs you want to keep, but otherwise it's free.
P.S. they still sell Easy Bake ovens..... :lol:

I'm using Audacity also - on my MacBook. It is not the most intuitive program, but once you figure it out it's pretty powerful. I love the ability to eliminate pops and clicks!

I've got Pandora on my computer as well as on my iPhone...love it!

What is this "turntable" and "vinyl record" of which you speak?

and the beatles? was that McCartney's band before Wings?

Do we go back to VACUUM TUBES, too?!?!

I bought my niece an Easy Bake for Christmas. She still hasn't baked me any cookies!!!!

I'm ripping at 256kbps. I have 5220 songs so far on my iTunes, and about 3360 of those on my iPhone - that's about 17GB of space (my iPhone is 32 GB)

That's what I rip at too, with VBR. All the car stereos I've looked at can play about 100,000 songs, but max out reading 32gig thumb drives. That means the recording is much lower than 256kb. Makes me wonder why they'd go to the effort of making hi fi components and suggest I play lo fi recordings through it.

One free program that may interest those of you whom are working with multiple .mp3 files is mp3gain. I have used this program extensively and find it very useful to edit {equalize the volumes of my .mp3`s,}
Another program I use is wavpad, it can do the same thing and much much more, including minimizing the pops and clicks coming from ripping vinyl. the basic program is free there is a fee for the masters version but I find the free version more than adequate for my purposes.
I have an extensive .mp3 collection and find these programs indispensable.
p.s. I have and have used many many other .mp3 editing programs anything from encoders, decoders, tag editors, frame editors ect. you name it! If it can be done to/with an .mp3, i`v probably done it including completely screwing one or two up *smile* I know of a good duplicate file finder if anyone is interested and a nice batch re-namer!{ a lot of the files I ripped with one particular encoder were named in this fassion ... Hank-Williams_your_cheating-heart} the batch renamer can remove the - and_ and replace with empty spaces. But can also be a nightmare if you mess up!

Thanks for the info on the other programs, Kerry. I do have some duplicates in my iTunes, but with iTunes my songs are associated with albums and if you have two albums with the same song (like some of my Beatles stuff) then you will have two copies of that song - one for each Album.

The two programs that came with my turntable are EX Audio Converter and Audacity. EZ is, well, it's easy to use, but it doesn't allow you to do much except rip the record and make an mp3. The Audacity program has lots of features and filters you can use to normalize, edit, reduce noise, eliminate clicks, etc.
