The most important thing my Father ever did for me, was take us on a history tour of Germany and other parts of Europe when I was a kid. I will never forget the feeling, even at just 13 years old, of standing in the oven room at Dachau Concentration camp and realizing how many people went to their death at that place. Probably had more influence of how I view the world than anything else before or since.

Have you been to the Holocaust Museum in Washington Bas?
It's a humbling place indeed.
Too bad she will not be here for the academy awards for her documentary.

The Holocaust museum is excellent. Each level of the museum guides you through the "descent" of Germany as rights are gradually taken away from those they determined "not worthy", and eventually "not human".

The survivor's story reminded me of the 1980 film "Playing for Time", based on the book The Musicians of Auschwitz.

Just remembered: a friend of mine (concert pianist) was imprisoned in a Japanese POW camp in WW2. She was made to scrub gutters with strong lye soap, which ruined her hands. Toward the end of the war, when the camp commander realilzed the end was coming, he brought in an old upright piano, and let her play it. She said that despite the missing keys and out of tune strings, it made "the most beautiful music on God's earth".

I've not been to the Holocaust Museum, but if I ever have the opportunity for some free time in DC, I plan to visit. I have been to the Concentration camp at Dachau and also Dad took us to visit Anne Frank's home where she and her family hid from the Nazis.
