This car zoomed by me today going 100+ mph. This
is the best photo I could get at max telephoto
doing 75 mph in my Jeep. I've no idea what this car
might be. I apologize in advance to the British car
Experts here on the BCF if the car is not British.
I mean no disrespect to anyone. Simply a curiosity
for me to see this car in the tropics..

It's a Porsche 356. From the fenders and exhaust I'd bet a twinkie it's a fiberglass replica on a 60s VW Beetle chassis. The 356 replicas are pretty common.
 
looks like a modified Porsche 356 speedster. They were made from 1948 to 1965. That one looks to be a mid fifties version, but the flared fenders are not stock. It may be a kit car replica.

I agree with everyone here... Porsche 356 Speedster Replica on a Shortened VW Beetle Frame. Looks like they did a decent job with it too.
 
Yep, some of those speedster replicas are exceptionally well done. I have a friend who owns one but without those garrish flares. It is accurate enough tat the local Porsche club gave him a certificate and accepted his car for membership!

I wonder what they did to the VW engine?
The car was fast, roared on the downshift
and did not sound like a VW.

The right VW engine can easily be taken to 125HP, or to 154hp with more money.

I hope you are not thinking about another project.
 
Probably a Porsche transplant. They will, at least some of them AFAIK, bolt right right up to a VW pan.

Yep - my '72 Karmann Ghia has a 2.0L Porsche 914 engine converted to an upright cooling fan.
 
The old 356 series engines looked remarkably close to VW engines (ight up to the up-right cooling fan) and did bolt right up!! A friend in college had a Beetle with an "S" engine in it...lots of fun!!
 
I have split Porsche blocks and found VW cranks in them. From the factory, yet.
