old guy string vs. zip ties

I'm tidying the garage so as to be able to get at the BE projects and the brain clicked in last night: I've always hung shovels etc from a nail high on the wall by drilling a hole in the handle and tieing a loop of string through it, then groping around to get that limp piece of cordage to hook onto the nail; similar nuisance taking the tools down.
The midnight inspiration had me out in the garage this afternoon, drilling out the string holes a bit wider, and puting zip ties through them, with the real advantage being that the zip tie/cable tie is stiffer and there seems to be no problem hooking and unhooking.
Dunno if there might be any nuisance items when using them, as the string in the end of the handle is a lot more flexible for actually using the tool
Also dunno if anyone else is excited, but (at my age) it sure brightened my day, and I figured there's enough grey hair here to share it with.

This old German guy I knew always said "we get too soon old and too late smart".
Even halfway through my sixties it surprises me when I get those "why didn't I think of this before" moments.

Yes, and sometimes the joy rapidly fades when reality sets in, but what is life but a series of happiness and not so happy.
The problem with zip ties is if you pull on the tool when it is still hooked. Zip tie will pull tight, and the loop will drasticly reduce in size and use ability. I just nail two 1x4s at an angle on each side of the 2x4 and hang the tool with the handle down.
Of course, this leave more room for the sprite and all the extra parts (you were wondering how I could tie the car into this...right).

Just drill the hole in the handle and use a 16d finish nail in the wall, no strings attached.
That's my method as well. Simple and cheap, just like me.

I use the same method, I place the nails in a 1x4 nailed to the wall to offset tools from the wall

I use the hole in the handle with a finishing nail as well. Maybe 50 years now.
