Old BJ7 Block. Worth Anything?

It's not worth anything. Probably cost you to get rid of it...I'll take it. Just kidding. :highly_amused: I have a BJ7 and would love to have it for backup. I think you're proabably 8 hours drive from me though. What would you want for it? Might be worth a drive.

I could be confused but I don't see those parts for sale by any of the major parts suppliers. Does that mean they are worth their weight in gold to the right guy?

Yes, they are worth quite a lot assuming they are not porous or cracked. Blocks are getting scarce. One of our racers just blew his engine last week and has had to source a new block. I would think at least $600-$800 for the block.

Check the prices of new heads and inlet manifolds. The head can be polished and ported quite easily, with enlarged valves if required.

The head and manifolds are definitely worth quite a bit. I think the block is seriously devalued without the bearing caps. Not obvious how to relalign everything with caps from another engine, but I suppose a machinist could figure out if that is possible.

I paid $250 quite a few years ago for a block with no bearing caps from Bill Bolton. Now I have two extra engines sitting around. I paid $350 for one of them with the carbs. The other came with my BJ8. I don't know anyone else around here that has extra engines, so they must be worth something.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd rather see them go to keeping a Healey on the road than off to the scrapper. I'll get some pics and put them in the classifieds in the coming weeks. Not looking to make a fortune, but parts sales would qualify as "free Healey money" in my house that I can put towards to some Healey upgrades. Be happy to trade everything for a factory BJ7 hardtop. I still have the matching number motor for my car after the V8 transplant, but that stays with the car. "Restore Them All", if you're seriously interested, send me a PM. It's about an 8 hour drive, but not a bad one.
