Old 8mm film

I didn't want to hijack the Kodak thread, so I started another. We have a couple rolls of undeveloped 8mm film of our boys when they were very young. They were lost in a move we made years ago and came to light 5 years ago when going through a box of old photos. 2 cans, sealed and never opened in all that time. I contacted a film company to get them developed and was told the chemicals to do this were no longer available. It's hard to believe with all this modern technology the process can't be repeated. The film may be totally destroyed in both cans, but the possibility might still be there to recover a portion of them. On one of these reels is a one and only photo of one of my favorite uncles we ever took. Any help on this situation, or am I on a dead end road? PJ

I suspect the processor you used really meant they no longer process that film so they no longer buy the chemicals. Look for another lab. There's a really strong chance the film will be very poor quality. We had the same scenario as you happen years ago.

If you drop black and white off at the local Walgreens for 1 hr turn, you won't get it because they no longer process B&W in the stores. It has to be sent out.
