Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out...

What the heck is this exhaust manifold from? It was supposedly pulled off of a '79 Spitfire, but it doesn't fit correctly on my '80 Spit. The stamping "CHA 256" is apparently an MG part number, so the best guess is that it's from a Midget 1500. But I couldn't check because I sold my Midget many moons ago, and the only pictures I could find of the Midget manifolds look exactly the same as the Spitfire manifolds (similar to what's pictured here, but with the bottom flange angled toward the back of the engine, instead of going straight down).

Any Midget owners recognize it?

Could be from a Midget, it looks very much like the one on my '77. I don't recall when the style changed but I thought later ones had multiple ports for the air injection instead of the single port like that one has.

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

naaahhh... gotta be *just* pre-1500.

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

I've got one in my engine storage building that's just like it down to the 'BL' logo - came wit a disassembled 1500 engine.

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

Really?

My credibility shot inna foot...

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

I don't know what it is, Doc - just know what I've got & with what it came...

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

Does it fit a 1500 head?

Now I'm curious! It's been ~years~ since I've had a Spitfire apart that far, I just don't recall exit ports lookin' like that.

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

I'll look over the weekend...I've got the 1500 head off the block

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

Yes, it definitely fits a 1500 engine, as I had it bolted to mine before I tried to put the cat back on it and had it hit the frame. I'm now trying to remember if the correct one, which was very similar, had the same single opening for 2&3. But I'm certainly not going to pull it back off the car to find out /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

didnt my other post come thru? I am a TR guy,i said it is one version of the 1500 engine manifold and thats a EGR valve on it
The 1500 spits had multiple exh manifolds over the years. That manifold will fit heads all the way back to the 1296 cc engine.

Re: Ok, the Triumph guys couldn't figure this out.

Good Grief...The part # is cast into it. It is a Midget 1500 exhaust manifold. Probably early USA and Canada since the EGR valve is on top. The later manifolds had the valve on the side IIRC and it has been at least ten years since I looked under the bonnet of a Midget 1500.
