OK, so what is that nasty scraping noise?

Having gotten the old (71) BGT back on the road, a nasty problem has cropped up that I seem to recall getting rid of many years ago. When I'm turning right, there is a nasty scraping noise from the right rear. My recollection is that previously it was identified as the drum scraping on the backplate. This was fixed by adding a few shims to push the drum out a bit. I've pretty much changed out everything back there (including new backplates from Tony) but I believe I left those shims in when it went back together.

Is this a common problem? That is a particularly nasty noise. Should I do more shims? Where?
 
I know you didn't do it so this is definitely a dumb question: did you put the backing plates on correctly? I.E. they're not backwards, are they?
 
If the scraping is as nasty as you describe there will have to evidence, (i.e. shiny metal) somewhere. Time to jack it up, pull the wheel, and then the drum and inspect.

Post pictures so we can look over your virtual shoulder!

BTW, that's a good looking survivor you have there.
