So...Carla and I got our new seatbelts from VB today for our '71 MGB. They are on page 86 and are the non-retractible with shoulder harness. We can't figure out how that little plastic "push" button works...the bolt head it too big so it makes no sense to us. Looks like you just have to take out the bolt everytime you put the top up or down. :frown: AND the floor bolts are too long AND the washers are too large. Aaaarghhh!! Are we just ignorant??

Gary,

Don't sweat it. You can't be (and aren't) the only one who has/had NO idea what those plastic things are for! I didn't know that those chrome "bolt" heads are the anchor points for the shoulder belts or that the plastic clip things "lock" the belt end in place. I forget where I finally discovered it! My PO installed retractable belts so I don't need them - but I have them. The hole in the end of your shoulder belt SHOULD be big enough to fit over the chrome bolt head and then slide into a smaller slot in the belt end. Then the plastic thing fills the larger opening, effectively holding the belt end in place. I hope this helps and that I got it right!

Peter...thanks. That's exactly what we thought except that the hole in the shoulder belt end is only round (no slot) and is considerably smaller than the bolt head. Also, the plastic thingy won't fit into the plastic shield surrounding the belt end. I guess these are generic belts BUT VB says you need the plastic button at $25.00 each. :frown: We'll keep thinking about it.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time with nonretractable belts. They are a PITA, and on your '71 aren't even necessary for originality. Inertia reels are sooooo much nicer.
