TR6 OK eBay again Holley 4BBl Intake TR6

I got excited about this manifold when I saw it last week, but looking at the new pics---it looks roughly made. I emailed the seller and asked about clearance issues (the manifold doesnt drop down like the twin weber down-draft manifold) and he answered back saying you would need a hood scoop with a 6" rise!!!.----Nice concept though, I would like to see one made with a drop to fit under the stock hood.

On the previous post about this manifold I mentioned how nice a job someone apperantly did manufacturing it. I here by RETRACT that statement. The welding on that thing is attrocious. Ugly to say the least!
i`ll stick with the SU H6`s!

He says it idles and has good throttle response, but only in the garage. I bet he can't figure out how to properly set it up to run under any real load. Just think of how hard it is to get the most out of a set of SU's and how much experience has accumulated. Now think of Webers, just a bit harder, but still lots of experience. Now take that Holley, and no one has the slightest idea how to get it to work well on a TR6..... Sure will tick off the experts when whoever buys it comes crying to them for help when they cant get the car to run.

I think you should cut a whole in the hood and put a big scoop coming off the carb, maybe even some butterflies! hahah. Redneck style.

Actually tuning a Holley can be pretty easy. The engine doesn't know what kind of carb is on it....you could put a trio of Stromberg 97's on it and it would probably be OK.

Holleys are easy to rejet and really simple to work on. I would never use one on a TR for many reasons BUT it should work just fine.

I would think the car would not some other upgrades to run that much carb. Cam and header at least.

I have to admit that after all these years playing with side-draft English carburators, I've never really managed to tinker with the standard American downdraft carb. I still look at the Edelbrock sitting on top of my Tiger's 260, and I pray that it never needs adjusting! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The good thing about edelbrocks vs holley is that they never need adjusting. Holleys need near constant attention.

I'm very glad to hear it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I have Holley carbs on two different engines, I have seldome ever encountered a problem with either of them. One thing that can occour is, IF your engine for one reason or another ever backfires, this condition can make the power valve {often called economiser valve} on Holley carbs inopreable. {Blows the diaphram} Other than that, Holley carbs are reliable! Easy to work on! Easy to re jet! Easy to adjust {Tune}! And very reliable. Power Valves for various elevations and or applications are redily available at most any auto parts source, so are the jets and gaskets.
I`ll take a Holley over a Quadrajet anyday!

That valve/back fire issue was a constant problem on the older 60-'s Ford Autolite 2 & 4BBL carbs as well.

They blew diaphragms and the Q-Jet secondary well plugs leaked and filled the intakes with gas overnight. That was after they replaced all of the first two years umbrella style needle and seat valves that flooded the engines when hot.

Neither would qualify for top of the list replacement or performance recommendations.

Is that their reproduction of the old Carter Thermoquad ? That was a great carb. Bit arcane to adjust when you don't know how, but no worse than an H6 (when you don't know how). Quadrajets are more of a pain, IMO, only because they're harder to get apart and you have to take them apart every time.
